PCB Pays Rs 1.95 Million to 161 Stakeholders
PCB has announced that they have paid a total of Rs 1.95 million to 161 stakeholders, including cricketers, match officials, ground staff and scorers.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced that they have paid a total of Rs 1.95 million to 161 stakeholders; these include first-class cricketers, match officials, ground staff and scorers. This one time payment is to help out the stakeholders that fulfilled the criteria during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The press release issued by PCB states that they have paid Rs 25,000 to 16 first class cricketers each – making the total amount Rs 400,000. Furthermore, they have paid 21 match officials Rs 15,000 each, totalling to Rs 315,000. Around 124 ground staff and scorers received Rs 10,000 each, making it a total of Rs 1.24 million.
If we were to compare the amount paid to the stakeholders with the millions that are being paid to some of the PCB officials monthly, it would seem quite meagre. Even the amount that was paid to the Prime Minister’s COVID-19 Pandemic Relief Fund was higher (at Rs 10 million). However, it does help these stakeholders with some of their daily expenses.
“Most of the people who have benefitted from this initiative are the ones who were previously associated with the cricket board and as a responsible organisation we strongly believe that it was binding on us to provide whatever assistance we could.
“While these payments may be a token of support, we have attempted to reach out to as many as possible to minimise the financial blow in these difficult and unprecedented times.”
The issue of financial support is not only related to cricket; domestic and local sports have been suspended for the past 3 months, and the stakeholders related are suffering. These sports include field hockey, football, baseball, table tennis, badminton and athletics.
As the markets have been opened for the people, I hope that the sports community in Pakistan is able to develop proper SOPs so that our sportspeople can restart their practices and matches.
