AJK Elections: PTI Won, PML-N and PPP Rejects the Results
AJK elections were held in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and few districts of Pakistan. PTI took the lead, PPP and PMLN accused the election to be rigged.
On Sunday, the most awaited AJK election in Azad Jammu and Kashmir was held and several violent outbreaks between party supporters were also experienced during this election.
Voting was held in Azad Jammu and Kashmir area with a 3.22 million population who can vote and 6,139 voting stations. Polling was also held in few districts of Pakistan which house a huge population of AJK migrants.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) secured 25 seats and won the elections. However, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) bagged 11 seats, and Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PMLN) obtained only six seats. All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference (AJKMC) and Jammu and Kashmir People’s Party (JKPP) only obtained one seat each.
During the AJK elections, several violent outbreaks were witnessed between the supporters of the main political parties. Two people were even killed in an outbreak in the town of Kotli between PTI and PPP supporters. Four soldiers also died and four other personnel were injured due to the outbreaks.
PTI leader, Imran Khan, thanked the people of AJK for their support in the election and promised to make sure that there will be accountability and transparency between the regional government. In his address, he also pledged to raise his voice for Kashmir at international forums and work towards demolishing poverty in the region of AJK.
On the other hand, the Vice President of PML-N, Maryam Nawaz, and Chairperson of PPP, Bilawal Bhutto, denies accepting the results of the elections and called them “rigged”.
Maryam Nawaz tweeted against accepting the results and PML-N supporters supported her and the party with their tweets. However, in several other tweets, she congratulated representatives of PML-N for having a “close fight despite the shameless rigging and the violence” in the AJK elections.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari congratulated his party representative for acquiring the second-highest number of seats in the AJK elections. He also went after the election commission saying they failed to go against Imran Khan for rigging the election.
PTI resorted to violence & rigging in #AJKElections2021 . ECP failed to take action vs PTI for violating electoral rules. Despite this, PPP emerged as largest opposition party in AJK with 11 seats, up from 3 seats last time. incredibly proud of PPPAJK for putting up a good fight. pic.twitter.com/lAUXCp72Kw
