Abdul Sattar Edhi & His Services

It has been four years since Abdul Sattar Edhi departed from this world, leaving his work and his thoughts behind.

Born in 1928, Abdul Sattar Edhi came to partition on the time of separation. Since then, he has been slowly and gradually investing in welfare. It was from his mother, who taught him to help people out. According to one of his interviews, his mother would give him 1 paisa. And would tell him to divide money and buy food for himself and for some poor kid. Since then, he knew he had a responsibility to help one out. He came to Karachi and in a disease pandemic back in 1957, started his services in Karachi.

Since then, Mr Edhi, slowly and gradually started to expand his services to all over Karachi. And this, later, expanded to all of Pakistan. Before he passed away, i.e. on 8th July 2016, Abdul Sattar Edhi was owning around 1800 ambulances all around the country. Moreover, he was a father/guardian to more than 20,000 children, who were left in cradles outside Edhi Centres. Edhi also provides morgue services that are available in different Pakistani cities. And moreover, they also have a graveyard in New York, USA.

Abdul Sattar Edhi has been a mentor, a father, and a hero to all of this nation. People trusted him, his services and his work more than anyone else in the country. Due to his services, he has been awarded with several International Awards and was the third person in Pakistan, after Mr Jinnah and Zia-ul-Haq to receive a State Gun Carriage Funeral. His legacy has been continued by his son, but Mr Edhi, himself, is never to be forgotten, ever.
