Anil Kapoor Showed Up in Outerwear from Pakistani Brand “Rastah”
Ranbir Kapoor's dad, Anil Kapoor, donned a handwoven dot jacket from Pakistani streetwear "Rastah" from their archival line.
Bollywood’s latest release, Animal, is predicted to be a blockbuster hit, and fans are captivated by the grandeur of the movie’s premiere. Recently, fashion enthusiasts took notice of renowned actor Anil Kapoor wearing an outerwear piece from Pakistani fashion brand Rastah during a special screening in Mumbai.
Anil, who played Ranbir Kapoor’s father in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s crime thriller, wore the “Hand-woven Dot Jacket”. The jacket was taken from an old Rastafarian collection and was entirely hand-woven by Pakistani artist-tailor Master Ijaz. According to the fashion brand’s webpage, the jacket represents the concepts of surveillance and personal freedom in the digital age. Currently, the jacket is available for purchase for Rs. 123,200.
Anil is not the first person to wear the Pakistani brand. Co-founder of the clothing firm Zain Ahmad revealed on X (formerly Twitter) that the Bollywood icon donned a second Rastah jacket in his 2022 movie premiere JuggJugg Jeeyo, describing it as a “surprise”. “Woke up today and was pleasantly surprised to see the legend Anil Kapoor in Rastah for his new film JuggJugg Jeeyo!” Zain said on her Instagram. The Mr. India star verified that he was wearing a blue Rastah outerwear on one of his shared movie posters.
In 2022, Zain posted a photo on Rastah’s Instagram page from a joint session with Harshvardhan Kapoor, a star and producer who is also Anil Kapoor’s son. The photo shows Harshvardhan wearing an orange button-down shirt with white trousers and an inner made by Rastah using coloured denim yarn. Anil Kapoor can be seen posing behind Harshvardhan in the picture.
Rastah is a Pakistani streetwear brand that was founded in 2018 by cousins Zain, Ismail, and Adnan Ahmad. The brand aims to blend the rich cultural and artistic traditions of the East with Western design inspirations. Rastah has gained popularity among several celebrities, including rapper French Montana, Oscar-winning actor Riz Ahmed, Canadian musician Justin Bieber, and Bollywood director Karan Johar.
