Babar Azam Talks About Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah’s Absence
The Pakistan Cricket Team's performance showed the absence felt by Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah, who were injured and did not play in the semi-finals.
While their departure caused the squad to lose the Asia Cup, Babar Azam, the captain of the Pakistan Cricket Team, stated on Friday that wounded fast bowlers Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah continued essential to his side’s World Cup aspirations.
In a Super Four elimination game that was cut prematurely by rainfall on Thursday in Colombo, the Pakistan Cricket team lost by a score of 2 wickets to other co-hosts, Sri Lanka.
In the Super Four defeat to India during the 50-over competition—a warm-up for the ODI World Cup in India beginning next month—both Shah and Rauf suffered injuries.
Haris Rauf is doing okay; he has a minor side exertion, but he will be healed in time for the World Cup, according to the captain, Babar Azam.
“Naseem Shah did miss a few games in this tournament which took a toll on the team and impacted their performance. Although Babar said he is not sure how well he’s recovering but did assure that Naseem will play in the World Cup in his opinion.
When Pakistan failed to hold on to 252 during a 42-over-a-side game versus Sri Lanka, the fast-bowling duo’s departure was evident.
In that match, Charith Asalanka, the Srilankan captain, guided his team to victory.
After the game, Azam stated, “Definitely when you lose your best bowlers, that costs you and your team. We were not short of effort but didn’t finish well.”
In order to prevent eight runs, fast bowler Zaman—who made a statement in the Pakistan Super League—bowled the opening four deliveries for only two runs, winning a wicket.
But the Srilankan captain, who scored 49, gave the country’s audience cause to cheer with his decisive hit, sending Sri Lanka, the previous league champion, into the Asia Cup finale.
The squad will face the national team in a highly awaited match on October 14 in Ahmedabad, and Azam promised that they will gain insight from their errors and perform stronger in India the following month.
