BRIT Awards Are Set To Introduce Gender Neutral Awards

In what is hailed as a progressive change by many on the left, the BRIT Awards are all set to introduce gender neutral awards in 2022.

Recently there has been a change in awards shows in the west. Many have taken a step towards introducing gender neutral awards as evident by the awards shows presented on MTV.

Now the BRIT Awards are taking a similar step forward towards greater equality and representation. From next year onwards, they will no longer have male and female categories. Instead, the categories will now be replaced by new ones called “Artist of the Year” and “International Artist of the Year”.

According to the chairman Tom March, such a decision is important in helping to ensure greater inclusivity. He also discussed that such a decision would emphasize on the importance of the artist’s talent and skills.

In addition to this news, other changes have also been made to next year’s BRIT Awards. Featured artists will also be mentioned alongside the lead artists in the “Song of the Year” category.

There will also be an introduction of four new categories for four different genres of music. These include; “alternative/rock act”, “hip hop/grime/rap act”, “dance act” and “pop/R’n’B act”.

As mentioned earlier, the BRIT Awards follow other awards that have taken similar steps. These include the MTV Video Music Awards, MTV Movie and TV Awards and the Television Critics Association Awards.
