Copy Cat: First Ever Clone Cat in China

Pet cloning in many countries has gained a lot of fame and China recently has successfully cloned it's first cat after cloning 40 dogs.

Animal cloning has become a thing recently. Many countries are legally doing it such as US and South Korea. China was cloning dogs since 2017 however, this year they cloned their first kitten. The gray and white colored ball of fur is absolutely adorable. Her owner was sad when his cat died and hence, that led him to recreate his pet whom he named Garlic.

The new Garlic was created by Chinese firm Sinogene, becoming the Beijing-based company’s first successfully copied cat. According to her owner, the similarity between the both cats is more than 90 percentage. A lot of people have already contacted the company to get their own pets cloned. The company says that most of the people who get their pets cloned, belong to the age group of late twenties.

“In fact, a large proportion of customers are young people who have only graduated in the last few years,”

The pet-cloning outfit has made more than 40 pet dogs. This procedure costs a hefty 380,000 yuan ($53,000), while the price for a cat comes in at 250,000 yuan ($35,000). People are willing to pay this price no matter what as they get attached to their pets. Pets can have an impact on the owner, they’re with them most of the times and hence, build an emotional connection.

“Whatever the origin of pets, owners will see them as part of the family. Pet cloning meets the emotional needs of young generations.”

The Future

The owner of the company, Mi, thinks that the market for pet cloning will definitely skyrocket in the coming years. There’s a chance that if we’re able to copy cats and dogs, then we might also be able to clone pandas or other extinct animals. A researcher has been studying about giant panda cloning for 20 years, is convinced that this could be possible. Animals like the snow leopard, polar bears and many others can also get a new incarnation through this process.

They’re almost on the brink of extinction and our generations might now even get to see them. The pet cloning gives us hope that we can save such animals from becoming extinct.
