CPEC: China Offers Improve Infrastructure in Karachi

As relations between China and Pakistan intensify, a delegation met with the city administrator and offered to help improve infrastructure in Karachi.

On Wednesday, 28th October, a delegation from China called upon the city administrator Iftikhar Shallwani to discuss mutual interests. The purpose of this delegation was that China had offered to improve infrastructure in Karachi; the delegation led by the director of Houji Group Mr. Xiang Qiwen and Miss Wang Huayu and Coordinator Friendship of Foreign Country, Mr. Yang Haiming.

The delegation has proposed to improve Karachi’s infrastructure by uplifting coastal areas and beginning the construction of parking plazas. Moreover, they have also signed a memorandum which states that Karachi along with similar Chinese cities is ‘Sister Cities.’

The administrator, Mr. Shallwani, went on to say that Pakistan and China had a strong international relationship especially because of projects like CPEC which have brought them closer. He said that because of China’s offer to improve infrastructure in Karachi and the creation of CPEC, Pakistan’s economy is bound to thrive.

Mr. Shallwani further stated that China and Pakistan have been working on several joint ventures together and that China has been a great help in enhancing Pakistan’s development. “Karachi Metropolitan Corporation wants to uplift infrastructure of the city and carry out road construction and other works,” he added.

Since Karachi is known as the hub for economic activities for Pakistan, the city administrator believes that it is a golden opportunity for investors due to its geographical attributes. He says that the city needs coastal development and parking plazas since China has considerable expertise and experience in the area; this project will be a huge success.

“This city is known as commercial capital as business activities are done throughout the year,” he said. Moreover, the roads and footpaths within the city are also under construction for residential and commercial areas.

The delegation stated that Karachi is the biggest city in Pakistan and that China wants prosperity and development for the people. Hence, China has offered to improve infrastructure in Karachi.
