Daraz Sees Boost in FMCG Sales Amidst COVID-19

One of the key findings of the E-Commerce Index is that there has been an increase in the sales of FMCG products on Daraz due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Daraz had launched Pakistan’s first E-Commerce Index in April 16 2020 – this provides consumer insights as well as measure the growth of the e-commerce industry. It will give an insight to what makes the customers hesitate when shopping online, for all sectors, as well as give us a benchmark to compare periodical performances with. One of the key findings of the E-Commerce Index is that there has been an increase in the sales of FMCG products on Daraz due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the second and third week of March, FMCG sales at Daraz doubled, and they are expected to further increase by 70% during the upcoming weeks due to COVID-19.

Managing Director of Daraz, Ehsan Saya, remarked on Daraz’s role in the COVID-19 pandemic:

“During this period of uncertainty, we have witnessed a shift in customers’ behaviour, with demand fast-growing for essential products – a strong indication that e-commerce can serve as a solution at this time. It is our responsibility to ensure continued access to these goods to facilitate social distancing, help our country and to serve our customers.”

Government’s Stance on Technology Companies

Federal IT Secretary Shoaib Siddiqui recently attended an online event, where he stated, “During this time, the role and positive approach that technology companies have adopted should be acknowledged. Their contribution has remained valuable. The government has adopted an enabling role and we will continue to do so.”
