Day 2: 376 More Held for Violation of Sindh Lock Down

While the number of violations of the lock down laws in Sindh go from 472 to 376 on day 2, Government has implied imposing a curfew if people don't listen.

It was reported yesterday that in the first day (Monday March 23), there were 472 people held across Sindh for violation of the lock down laws. While the number has dropped to 376 people for the second day, it is still shocking to see that people are willing to violate these laws.

Out of the total 848 caught in the 2 days, 246 belong to Karachi only. Furthermore, only 132 cases have been registered out of the total. All of these arrests happened in 8 ranges, out of which 3 belonged in Karaci (South, West and East). The other 5 include Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Shaheed Benazirabad, Sukkur and Larkana.

These arrests have been made under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code – this is defined as “disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant” that “could be punished with simple imprisonment for a term which may extend to one month or with fine which may extend to six hundred rupees or with both”.

Sindh Information Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah announced that the Government was observing the situation, and would take a stricter action if the people were not willing to comply. He added that while the Government did understand the problems people were facing, they had no other way of curbing the spread of COVID-19.

“If the people do not follow the government’s instructions issued to control the spread of the coronavirus and they keep on coming out of their homes unnecessarily then a curfew would be imposed by the government.

“I personally apologise to the people on behalf of the Sindh government but we are left with no other choice then to take these drastic measures. The control of the spread of the coronavirus is not only limited to Pakistan but the whole world has been affected by this pandemic. All other countries in the world are taking extreme drastic measures for this.”

Please cooperate with these rules, as they are made to lessen the spread of COVID-19 amongst us. Social distancing and Self-isolation is all we can do, along with maintaining hygiene.
