Did Qandeel Get Justice?

After three years, Qandeel Baloch's murderer was presented in the court along with all others who were attached to the case.

In 2016, Qandeel Baloch became a victim of what is known as ‘Honor Killing’. People, usually women, are killed because, apparently, their family’s honor is ruined by them somehow. Qandeel was killed because of her explicit images on web. She was killed after her pictures with Mufti Qavi, which went viral on the internet. Her brother had murdered her by asphyxiation, which was confessed on the day later.

On 27th Sept 2019, Qandeel’s brother, Waseem, was sentenced to life imprisonment by
Model court in Multan. According to the detailed verdict for the case, the prosecution had “successfully proved its case beyond shadow of reasonable doubt through cogent, convincing and inspiring evidence against the accused for committing qatl-i-amd (wilful murder) of his sister Fouzia Ameen alias Qandeel Balouch in shape of proving his presence at the place of occurrence, in shape of judicial confession corroborated with positive results of his DNA.” So he is held guilty of committing qatl-i-amd of his sister … “
On the other hand, Mufti Qavi and others involved in the case were acquitted by the court. It was sad to see that people were happy over the fact that Qavi was released. But they had no such happiness over the fact that Waseem was arrested and sentenced. Mufti Qavi, indirectly, had played a big role in Qandeel’s murder.
Qandeel’s father had although forgiven the killers and had provided court with an affidavit, which was rejected by the court. Waseem would now be serving in Central Jail Multan for the time he has been convicted with.
This also shows, how inconsiderate the family is when it comes to ‘honor’ & ‘pride’. People kill their own family members just to show the world what honor is for them. We all know one thing though. Honor killing doesn’t bring in honor, AT ALL!
