‘Durj’ Pakistani Movie Banned By Censor Board

Shamoon Abbasi's upcoming movie 'Durj', which was expected to release on 11th October has been banned by censor board.

According to the latest reports, the much-awaited movie ‘Durj’, starring Shamoon Abbasi, Sherry Shah, Maira, Nouman Javaid, and Dodi Khan was all set to make it to cinemas in October.

The movie was audience anticipated suspense thriller and it was bluntly banned by Pakistani censor board. Well, if not in Pakistan, the movie will release in United Sates, United Kingdom, Canada, on same dates,. Whereas, in Denmark and Norway it’ll release later on.

Talk about subject ‘Durj’ is based on a case and occurrence of cannibalism in Pakistan. When two brothers were arrested in 2011, in the case fro digging up graves and taking out fresh corpse. They were sentenced to jail for two years.

They were released after two years as there are no proper legislation regarding the crime in Pakistan. These brother were not monitored and went back on digging more than 100 graves until they were arrested again.

Actor and  filmmaker, Shamoon Abbasi wrote on Facebook, “This story struck me as a writer and director I was amazed on how these dangerous people with such mental disorders live among us and how one day we can become their prey..”

He further added about the difficulties that he faced, stating, “Many actors left us in the process of the making of this film.. Some didn’t have the courage to carry on with the harsh shoots on the scorching sun in the mountains which was really a task and some simply don’t believe in the film, (not surprised)”.

Durj- runway pakistan Shamoon Abbasi’s movie ‘Durj’, maybe good enough for 72nd edition of Cannes Film Festival but unfortunately not for Pakistan’s censor board. The director and actor is yet to comment on the ban imposed on his movie.
