Earthquake in China Leaves Many Dead and Injured

China's Sichuan province has been struck by a 6.0 magnitude earthquake.

China has been hit by a strong 6.0 magnitude earthquake which has left at least 12 dead and 125 injured in its Sichuan province. Rescue missions have been underway even in heavy rainfall which was accompanied by the earthquake.

The earthquake hit Sichuan around 10:55pm local time at a depth of 16 km. A series of 4 aftershocks have also been recorded which took place in the following 40 minutes. The largest aftershock has been of 5.1 magnitude.

There has been destruction; residential houses and many other building have collapsed due to which people have been relocated to different and safer locations. The damaged that this earthquake has caused is definitely a lot however, the exact number of causalities is still not known.

More than 500 firefighters have been sent on a rescue mission along with the necessary emergency supplies which also include folding cots and tents. Rescue missions are still ongoing and looking for people that are stuck under the rubble. There has been public tension across the country as people are distressed.

The U.S Geological survey declared the magnitude of the main earthquake as 5.8. Many earthquake regularly strike the province of Sichuan in China, the deadliest of them all has been one with a magnitude of 7.8 which left almost 87,000 people dead in 2008.
