Electric Transport in Islamabad Soon To Be Launched

The need to combat global warming has never been higher; The Ministry of Science and Technology plans on introducing electric transport in Islamabad!

With global warming worsening day by day, the need to come up with an efficient way to conserve the environment has become imminent. This is why the government is planning to introduce electric transport in Islamabad and gradually all of Pakistan.

Toxic fumes from vehicles are one of the main factors of global warming, moreover, not only does it cause global warming, but the use of fuel-run vehicles has been depleting our natural resources. The need to come up with an efficient alternative for public transport and on Tuesday, Federal Minister for Science and Technology, Fawad Chaudhry signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Capital Development Authority. Islamabad is said to be the first city to be running on an all-electric transport system within the next 3-5 years.

While talking to the media, Fawad Chaudhry, announced that he will be introducing new modes of electric transport in Islamabad such as 30 electric buses all across Islamabad which will accommodate across 48000 people and save up to 30 thousand barrels of fuel per year. He further said that saving this much fuel would mean saving up to Rs. 510 million!

It was further deduced that vehicle and their toxic fumes made contributed up to 25% of global warming, which made switching to a more efficient and less harmful mode of electric transport extremely necessary. The Minister plans on bringing in battery-operated buses which would cause a shift in almost 40% of the population on electrical buses in the first few years.

Furthermore, to smoothly introduce this initiative, the government has signed a contract with Skywell Automobile to import the first 120 electric buses in Pakistan before the end of this year. Once the first few buses have been imported, Fawad Chaudhry further confirmed that the manufacturers will be setting up a plant in Pakistan within the first 2-3 years to locally produce electronic transport in Islamabad and the rest of Pakistan, eventually. All this in association with Daewoo Express.

Not only electronic buses, but the Ministry of Science and Technology has further promised to bring forward another mode of electronic transport in Islamabad, such as three-wheeler vehicles for female commuters only to ensure their safety while also preserving the environment and conserving energy.

All in all, this is a great initiative and a step in the right direction for Pakistan, it is about time that the government takes notice of the increasing pollution and overall environmental changes in the country. Once they begin to efficiently tackle such issues the people themselves will see a drastic change in the overall environment such as the air, the roads, and the sky. On towards a greener and cleaner state!
