F-16 crashes during rehearsals; One pilot martyred

In one of the rehearsals today, one of the F-16 planes crashed near Shakarparian in Islamabad. One pilot was martyred in the crash. 

As March 23rd comes nearer, the military has been preparing for the parade. This parade also includes an airshow, where planes are shown off. In one of the rehearsals today, a F-16 plane crashed near Shakarparian in Islamabad and one pilot was martyred.

Who was the pilot that was martyred?

Image result for wing commander nauman akramThe Pakistan Air Force (PAF) confirmed that Wing Commander Nauman Akram was the pilot martyred in the F-16 crash. Many people tweeted about the loss, including Governor of Sindh Imran Ismail:

 

 

What is being done about the crash?

A spokesman for PAF stated that rescue teams have been dispatched towards the site of the crash. Furthermore, a board of inquiry has been ordered by Air Headquarters to determine the cause of the accident.

Where is Shakarparian?

Image result for shakarparianShakarparian is a hill and a local park in Islamabad. The park is located near the Zero Point Interchange. Pakistan Monument is located in Shakarparian. The old Gakhars tribe leaders settled here before Indo-Pak partition 1947; later the clan was relocated to create a park for newly marked federal capital of the country in 1960-61. Nowadays, the park is used for the Parades done by the military.

Similar crashes in the past

Last month, a trainer aircraft of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) crashed near Mardan in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. A Mirage aircraft had crashed near Shorkot city of Punjab’s Jhang district the week before.

According to a press release, the PAF trainer aircraft crashed on a routine training mission near Takht Bhai. The pilot safely ejected the aircraft before it fell.

The PAF said the aircraft that crashed the week before had been used for training by the air force and crashed on a routine operational training mission. The official added that no loss of life was reported in the accident.

Moreover, in January, two PAF pilots were martyred after a training aircraft crashed near the M M Alam Base in Mianwali. According to an air force spokesperson, the PAF FT-7 aircraft was also “on a routine operational training mission” when it crash-landed near Mianwali.
