Dunkin Donuts Factory Gets Sealed in Karachi
Factory in SITE used expired products and below average raw materials
NEW UPDATE: Dunkin Donuts has given an official statement
“The food authority visited our premises when we were in between shifts and our nature of business is such that raw materials like chocolate and flour do spill to the floor. It is only when the next shift arrives that they clean the premises and ensure that the international hygiene and sanitation standards set by Dunkin’ International are achieved before beginning the production process. You are welcome to visit the facility and see for yourself if we’re maintaining the hygiene standards, but let’s not fall prey to allegations that are yet to be proven.”
Last weekend, the Sindh Food Authority raided and sealed the Dunkin Donuts factory in SITE Karachi. Expired bunties, chocolates and sub-standard ingredients were found at the manufacturing unit. This included unrefined items that had been intermixed. The report also says that the inspection team found worst hygienic conditions at the factory with traces of rodent feces.
Officials say the Dunkin Donuts factory in Karachi was temporarily sealed and it was charged Rs. 2.5 lacs as a fine. Attached below is the document filled by the Sindh Food Authority filing a report against the food chain.
Dunkin Donuts Pakistan: We are not associated with DD Karachi
In a post that is now deleted, Dunkin Donuts Pakistan stated it on their official Facebook page that they operate in Lahore and Islamabad only which shock many Dunkin Donuts fans. It just means that the management in Islamabad and Lahore is different from Karachi, as franchises are awarded by Dunkin Donuts based abroad.
If famous food chains such as Dunkin Donuts do not follow these regulations, then what about the small companies that don’t have as many strict regulations? Our regulatory authorities already have a tough time tracking many violations as it is.
