Fawad Chaudhry Launches Moon Sighting Website
Pakistan's official moon sighting website has been launched by Federal Minister for Science and Technology.
Federal Minister for Science and Technology, Fawad Chaudhry, officially launched Pakistan’s first “Moon Sighting” (pakmoonsighting.pk) website showing the Islamic Hijri calendar and the moon visibility. The launched was carried out in a ceremony where he mentioned the importance of technology and how the moon sighting can be done without much hassle.

Speaking on the occasion, he mentioned that Eid-ul-Fitr would be celebrated on 5th of June, and Eid-ul-Azha on 12th of August, according to the lunar calendar. While at a press conference held at Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR) he mentioned that the lunar calendar for 5 years, 2019 to 2024, has been prepared with the help of experts.
The application was prepared with help from experts at Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) and will be available for public use from Monday, on the Google Play Store. Through this application users can view moon’s mapping over several different locations. He also announced that August will be the month of Science and Technology.
