In recent events, Fawad Chaudhry, Federal Minister for Science and Technology took a dig at PMLN’s leader, Maryam Nawaz, and had the audacity to say that Ms. Maryam has “never managed a kitchen in her life but wants to run a country.”
Fawad Chaudhry made this comment against Maryam Nawaz while addressing a press conference alongside Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Shibli Faraz in Islamabad on Monday.
“Maryam has never managed a kitchen in her entire life. She lived in her father’s house and he ran the household,” Fawad Chaudhry told reporters. “Similarly, Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari has never worked a day in his life.” “Yet,” he continued, “both of them are submitting their resume to become the next prime minister of Pakistan. What can be a bigger insult to the people of Pakistan than that?”
Moreover, Fawad Chaudhry went onto say that dynastic politics was coming to an end over the world over but in Pakistan, certain politicians wanted to start new dynasties. “After their grandfather, the son-in-law, and now the grandson wants to govern.” He criticized Maryam Nawaz’s PDM for allowing anti-Punjab parties a political platform.
Fawad Chaudhry’s comments about Maryam Nawaz have sparked public fury, throwing in words as Maryam has never managed a kitchen is nothing but purely misogynistic. No matter how problematic Maryam Nawaz or the PDM, her political worth is not defined by how well she manages the household, or whether she works the kitchen or not.
To be honest, Fawad Chaudhry and his statement about Maryam Nawaz negatively portray the PTI government and their political mindset since he is representing them. It is high time that we move past such stereotypical gender roles and accept women and men in all lines of work.
