Getz Pharma has announced temporary closure of its head office and factories in Karachi to test all of its employees and their families for COVID-19.

The company has trained 56 employees, including senior managers and directors, in using the FDA approved testing kits. The first wave of COVID-19 tests are estimated to be completed by April 28th, and Getz Pharma’s head office and factories in Karachi will be open for testing of the worker’s families.

Only those employees who are tested negatively will allowed entry into the facility; those who are found positive, by testing, will be sent home on a paid leave after being counseled by trained counselors. Getz Pharma has also announced that they will be conducting further tests on the positive on these employees after 30 days, and will only be allowed back into office if they test negative.

The pharmaceutical company has also announced that they will be conducting free of cost testing for all media houses to visit the site and get free testing by showing their valid press card and NIC. Dr Wajiha Javed, the Head of Public Health and Research stated, “Reporters are also on the frontline of this pandemic, risking their lives by providing information to the nation, that is very crucial at this time.”

He further added, “Getz Pharma is following South Korea’s example. South Korea increased their testing ability and now has the lowest daily number of cases in the world.  I believe that this action if followed as a model, will reduce the pressure on our government for testing and will protect our employees, their families and the community.”
