India Declines Antonio Guterres’s Offer

United Nation's Secretary General visited Pakistan and held talks over Pakistan's relations with Afghanistan and India. Although India rejected an offer made by him.

The United Nation’s Secretary General is on a four-day visit to Pakistan. He came over to discuss and appreciate Pakistan’s take over Afghan refugees and Kashmir issue. “One of the main purposes of my visit is to spotlight the real Pakistan — with all its possibility and potential,” Mr. Guterres told reporters in Islamabad. Moreover, he is also looking forward to Sustainable Development in Pakistan.

Mr Guterres also held talks over climate change and how Pakistan has been a help. Pakistan, being a third world country doesn’t contribute much to global warming. However, has always see consequences against it. Mr. Sec Gen also appreciated Pakistan over their take on banning Plastics from the country. “Plastic pollution is today one of the central concerns that we have, especially for the protection of our oceans”, said the UN chief, who held up a bag made of fabric, and urged everyone in attendance to use similar ones when the did their shopping.

Apart from all this, Guterres talked about the issue prevailing between India and Pakistan, over Kashmir. He told that he was ready to act as a mediator between the countries. Prior to attending a meeting over Afghan Refugees, he said he is “ready to help if both countries agree for mediation”. However, India denied this offer. Spokesperson Indian External Affairs Minister, Raveesh Kumar took lead on the matter. He said “Further issues, if any, would be discussed bilaterally. There is no role or scope for third party mediation.”

This showed how badly India wanted any third party out of Kashmir Issue. Nevertheless, no action has been taken by UN over Kashmir yet. Moreover, Mr Guterres will be visiting Kartarpur Corridor to look in to new pilgrim corridor, which is quotes as “unique experiment in cross-border ties”.
