Jamie Lannister’s fate: a ferocious encounter with Dany’s untamed dragons???

Last we met our beloved Jamie, back in August of 2017; he was finally done with his sister’s manipulative political games and had chosen to ride up North. There is a common belief among fans that he’s headed to Winterfell with his younger brother, Tyrion, in order to join Jon Snow in his war against the army of the dead.

The final, not to mention MUCH anticipated, season of HBO’s notoriously gory Game of Thrones is expected to air mid of 2019 and speculation has been extremely rife about who will be left standing. Since the finale of the last season, stars of the show have been toying with viewers about the fates of their favorite characters. Many of the intertwining storylines will be tied up and characters’ arcs ended in the upcoming season.

There are several varying predictions circulating on social media about how the show will end and fans jump at any chance to question the stars to dig out clues. Such was the case when Nikolaj-Coster-Waldau was interviewed by The Huffington Post. Despite managing to dodge the invasive questions quite well, he did let a little bit slip, causing frenzy online.

Nikolaj said, “ Well, he is heading north. I don’t think you can assume that he’s going to make it up there, but who knows. For sure, we see him head north. He might be eaten by dragons, you never know. Or he might just stumble, things happen.”

Getting chewed up into pieces would be a rather infuriating end for our GOT-equivalent of Prince Charming but anything is possible in a show that can cut off Ned Stark’s head in the very first season.

With respect to the surrounding stories, he also added that he couldn’t specify if he would be fighting the white walkers but he is one of the few people with Valyrian steel, the ONLY element that can kill them.

Jamie is one of the most complex characters in the show. He may have saved an entire city from destruction but he has also committed some very despicable acts so can’t be classified as a “good guy” deserving of a grand exit.

On the other hand, he also teased, “Or he might find the love of his life and suddenly he’s like, ‘God, this is it. No more.”

Three words: BRIENNE.OF.TARTH

Nikolaj also mentioned Jamie’s motivation behind leaving King’s Landing. Upon mention of his differences with Cersie and the unborn child yet to appear he said, “Those things are 100 percent connected. That’s also what he told her, he says, “What’s the point? If we don’t defeat this threat, there is no future for our child.” I think he’s doing it for the right reasons, he gave his word, but also it’s the future of mankind and the future of him and Cersei that’s at stake. ”

Personally, I’m all for him leaving behind his incestual relationship with Cersie and embracing our badass girl in shining armor BUT nothing is ever that simple in GOT.

Nikolaj ended the interview with an assurance to fans saying that he was absolutely stunned and couldn’t imagine a more robust end to the series.

“I wrote the writers when I finished reading and just said, ‘I don’t think you could’ve done a better job at finishing this story.’ To me, it was very satisfying but also very surprising, and all the things that I was hoping for. It still made sense. It wasn’t like one of those where the killer is suddenly revealed in the last act and you go, ‘Oh! I didn’t see that coming.”

In the meantime, I’m perfectly satisfied with my dream ending of Jamie and Brienne riding off into the sunset while Daenerys and Jon rule over the seven kingdoms.
