Jibran Nasir and Shafqat Mahmood Are Feuding

Jibran Nasir and Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood have been engaging in a social media war against one another on the cancellation of Cambridge Exams.

Amidst the current mess of whether Cambridge International Examinations should take place as scheduled during the deadly third wave of the pandemic in Pakistan, activist Jibran Nasir and Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood have entered a feud.

The two have been going back and forth on social media for a few weeks now with the result of Shafqat Mahmood blocking Jibran Nasir on Twitter.

“Seems like Shafqat Mahmood wants to live in his bubble where he is always right and doesn’t want anyone bursting it with the truth about his performance. I didn’t abuse or made any personal remark, he blocked me for only raising students concerns and demanding resignation,” Jibran Nasir posted on Facebook.

Amid the deadly widespread of the third wave of the coronavirus, Shafqat Mahmood announced on April 27 that O and A level exams had been postponed till the annual Oct-Nov session with the only exception being A2 students “who have a compulsion to take [the] exam now”. These decisions by the Education Minister met with massive criticism from Jibran Nasir, the top schools of Pakistan and a huge number of celebrities and influencers.

In a series of tweets this past week, Jibran Nasir called out Shafqat Mahmood for his “incompetence”, steadfast to safeguard the lives of thousands of students.

Jibran Nasir called the minister “careless” and said he was causing students intense stress due to his “shortsighted ill-informed policies.”

The whole crisis has caused immense uncertainty amongst schools and students. With people in authority being split in their opinions, a collaborative approach seems unlikely. However, the school administrations across Pakistan are coming together without the government to make their students’ lives less stressful in such devastating times.
