Johnny Depp and Amber Heard head again to court
Depp has filed a defamation case against Heard.
Johnny Depp and Amber Heard will be heading again to court on Monday. This time to battle out over a defamation case that Depp had filed against Heard.
The actress accused the actor of domestic violence in a column that she wrote in the Washington Post in 2018. However, she did not mention Depp’s name in the column.
However, Depp believes that she is implying that it was him who abused her. This resulted in Depp filing a case against Heard in a court in Fairfax, Virginia.
Depp is suing Heard for 50 million dollars in damages. In return, Heard countersued asking for 100 million dollars for the abuse she suffered.
The case will be presided over by Judge Penny Azcarate and the case is expected to last for weeks.
Several famous celebrities will be testifying via a video link. Some of the names that will be acting as witnesses include James Franco, Paul Bettany and Elon Musk.
Johnny Depp and Amber Heard had met on the sets of “The Rum Diary”. The couple married in 2015 and divorced later in 2017.
Depp had also filed a libel case against the UK tabloid paper “The Sun” for calling him a wife beater. However, Depp lost the case and during the case procedures several intimate details of the couple became public. These included the revelation of Depp’s drug and alcohol addictions.
As a result of the allegations, Depp had lost several key roles and projects. These include his famous role as Jack Sparrow in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise.
He was also replaced by Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen in the third installment of the “Fantastic Beasts” franchise.
