Kashmiri Chai Recipe Which Can Be Prepared In 20 Minutes
Kashmiri Chai is a dusty pink delicacy with a long making process taking hours to get to the perfect colour. Here is a 20 minutes recipe for the beverage.
Kashmiri Chai often known as Pink Tea in Pakistan and India is a drink that demands hours of determination, concentration, muscle exercise and tea leaves collected from a particular region. This chai is also called the Kashmiri Noon Chai (Salt Tea)
The beverage is distinguished by its dusty pink colour which requires a lot of work to get to. It is brewed with green tea leaves and baking soda and garnished with crushed nuts. The Kashmiri Tea traditionally takes hours of boiling and reducing and that is how it is made in Kashmir however beverage can be made in 20 minutes as well although it may not have the same satisfaction but tastes pretty similar.
Things you will need for Kashmiri Chai
- Room Temperature Water enough to let the ingredients float
- Ice Water
- Milk
- Half and Half
- Kashmiri Chai Leaves or Non-Bitter Green Tea Leaves, some of the well known and talked about brands are Tapal Gulbahar, Dewan Kashmiri Pink Tea, Food Net Hi Sun, Handi Kashmiri Pink Tea, and Three Rivers.
- Whole Spices
- Baking Soda, and
- Sweetener
How to make the infamous Kashmiri Chai
- Add room temperature water, Kashmiri chai leaves or green tea leaves and spices to a pan.
- Let the ingredients come to a boil.
- Add baking soda to the pan. Baking soda helps with the burgundy colour which helps get the dusty pink Kashmiri chai colour so you can add baking soda until you get to the colour.
- Boil until the water evaporates almost.
- Add ice water to the pan.
- Then add milk and half and half. If you want your Kashmiri chai to be thicker then add more half and half and less milk and vice versa.
- Add salt.
- Add sweetener.
- Take it off the boil and strain it in the serving cups.
- Garnish with crushed mixed nuts.
