Khalid Malik Asks PM Khan and PEMRA to Save Radio

Khalid Malik urges PM Khan and PEMRA to save the radio industry as the astronomical license renewal fees are leading to closure of 100s of radio stations.

Runway PakistanBack in 2011, the only thing I looked forward to the early mornings were Khalid Malik’s show on City FM 89. While I moved away from Pakistan, Khalid’s radio shows were a memory I did not leave behind. So imagine my surprise when my favorite radio show Khalid Malik urged PM Khan and PEMRA to save the radio industry – I was not even aware that the medium was dying in Pakistan.

This is an appeal to #pemra and the government @imrankhan.pti . Save RADIO. I have been a broadcaster for 15 years and never thought that I would see this day where the existence of radio would be put into question here in Pakistan. Radio has evolved. It’s not just about sitting in the car and turning a dial. It’s much more than that. It is the only medium that is accessible to everybody. It is the medium of hope. It is the medium through which people come together, especially in times of hardship. During my darkest times I know that radio helped me through it. During these uncertain times I appeal to the powers to keep radio, to save radio and allow for it to play its part in society. I also appeal to advertisers to see radio more than just a frequency or a dial. It is much more and it has come a long way,as it welcome the digital age. In other parts of the world, show times have actually increased, advertising is booming especially during these times. There is a recognition of the role that radio plays. Let’s work together. Let’s keep radio. SAVE RADIO! . . . #saveradioinpakistan #radio #love #imrankhanpti #onair #SaveRadio #SaveFMRadioinPakistan #SaveTheRadioInsustryFromDeath @shiblifaraz

Why is the radio industry on the verge of dying out?

Due to the insistence of PEMRA on astronomical fees for license renewal, the radio industry in Pakistan is heading for imminent collapse – with the closure of over 100 radio stations all over the country and rendering thousands of people jobless.

Even the idea of radio stations not being there anymore to tune to makes me feel empty. It was a part of my childhood, and I hope it will be a part of my adulthood too. Let us all raise our voices and save radio, a medium that connects all Pakistanis together regardless of who they are and where they are.

I hope that PM Khan and PEMRA listen to Khalid Malik’s appeal and save the radio industry from dying!
