KP Bar Council Extended its Lawyer Strike till Nov 3rd
KP Bar Council announced an extension in lawyers' strikes till 3rd November. While Peshawar High Court urges both parties to discuss and resolve issues.
On Tuesday, 27th October, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council (KP Bar Council) announced that it has decided to extend its strike till the 3rd of November against amendments to the Code of Civil Procedure across the province.
Peshawar High Court has directed the representative committees of lawyers to meet and resolve these issues. Justice Lal Jan Khattak and Justice Syed Arshid Ali asked the concerned parties, which were earlier involved on the issue, to try to resolve the strike by Nov 3, the next date of hearing into a petition filed by KP Bar Council vice-chairman Shahid Raza Malik.
Upon the adjournment of this hearing, the KP Bar Council decided to extend its strike till 3rd November. Moreover, along with Shahid Raza Malik, KPBC executive committee chairman Shahid Qayyum Khattak, senior lawyers Mohammad Faheem Wali, Khalilullah Khalil, and others were also included in the bench.
Moreover, the KP Bar Council has requested the court to declare the charges made against the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Code of Civil Procedure Act, 2019 because of which terrible changes were made to CPC last year.
KP Bar Council has filed a petition along with its strike and has requested the provincial government through the chief secretary, secretaries of establishment, and law departments, etc. of the KP Assembly. Taking these demands into account, the government produced a draft of amendments, however, the lawyers’ committee refused the drafts and made amendments of their own and submitted it to the government.
The KP Bar Council added that instead of listening to their demands and realizing the reason for the strike the government has drafted their versions of amendments. Due to which the bench demanded that both parties, petitioners, and respondents, hold a meeting to discuss and resolve these strikes as soon as possible.
