Popular TV show host Tariq Aziz passed away from an unknown critical illness at the age of 84. He had been shifted to a private hospital on the night of June 16.
Who was Tariq Aziz?
Born in Jalandhar in 1936, Aziz’s family moved to Sahiwal after the partition in 1947, and that is where he gained his primary education. His career in media began in 1960s, when he became Pakistan’s first television host by working on Radio Pakistan.
Work with Media
His most famous work is perhaps Neelam Ghar, which started in 1974 and later on became the Tariq Aziz Show and Bazm-e-Tariq Aziz.The show aired for four decades. However, Tariq Aziz was more than a host; he was also a poet, as well as an actor who performed in many radio and television programs, and acted in movies too.
His first movie was released in 1967 by the name of Insaniyat. His other work includes Salgirah, Qasam Us Waqt Ki, Katari and Har Gaya Insan.
For his services to Pakistan, he received a Pride of Performance Award by the President of Pakistan in 1992.
Political Career
His first step into politics was when he joined Pakistan People’s Party in 1970 as a socialist. However, he soon went back to the entertainment industry. Later in 1996, Aziz joined Pakistan Muslim League (N) and was elected into the National Assembly from Lahore.
During the time of former President Pervez Musharraf, Tariq Aziz was a member of the Pakistan Muslim League (Q), but did not stay for too long and went back to the entertainment world again.
