Mamnoon Hussain: Late Ex-President and His Journey

Mamnoon Hussain, the 12th president of Pakistan passed away on July 14th, 2021. He has been a prominent figure in PML-N and was a successful businessman.

Yesterday it was confirmed that the 12th president of Pakistan, Mamnoon Hussain, passed away in a private hospital in Karachi while suffering from Cancer. Last February Mamnoon Hussain was diagnosed with cancer and was under treatment since.

The funeral prayer is scheduled on Thursday, July 15th, in Sultan Masjid which is located in DHA Phase 5, Karachi.

He was a loyal companion to Nawaz Sharif and a prominent politician in PML-N political party. The late ex-president always maintained a low profile even when he was appointed as the 12th President of Pakistan, for 5 years.

His successor, Dr-Arif Alvi, and several other officials expressed their grief on Twitter.

His colleagues and officials from PML-N also expressed their sorrow on Mamnoon Hussain’s demise and talked about his great personality.

Mamnoon Hussain was born in Agra in 1940 and shifted to Karachi, with his family, after the partition of the Subcontinent. He completed his matriculation in 1958 and attended Government College of Commerce where he was awarded Bachelors in Commerce Honors degree. He also is an alumnus of the Institute of Business Administration, commonly known as IBA, in Karachi and graduated from there in 1965.

He was introduced to politics in the 1970s and since then is associated with the PML-N. During the 1993 conflict surrounding Ghulam Ishaq Khan and Nawaz Sharif, it was rumored that late Mamnoon Hussain might take control of the party. At that time he was also serving as Sindh’s acting president from the Muslim League party.

Hussain’s other achievements include serving as Sindh Governor in 1999 for 5 months, the presidency of Karachi Chambers of Commerce and Industries (KCCI), and adviser of Liaquat Jatoi, Chief Minister of Sindh. Before he was appointed as the President of Pakistan in 2013, he was running a textile business in Sindh and also was the vice-President of PML-N.

Mamnoon Hussain wanted to develop the province of Sindh while handling the office of Presidency. He has known to be the most non-controversial president in the history of Pakistan.
