Mexican Couple Converts to Islam After Ertugrul
Turkish newspaper Yeni Safak reported in 2019 that a Mexican couple converted to Islam after watching the hit series Ertugrul. The conversion took place in December last year.
Turkish newspaper Yeni Safak reported in 2019 that a Mexican couple converted to Islam after watching the hit series Ertugrul. The conversion took place in December last year. This happened when one of the actors in the series, Celal Al, attended the 22nd annual meeting of the Muslim American Society (MAS). He gave a speech about Islam and his nation Turkey.
When asked, the couple stated, “The Turkish TV series Diriliş: Ertuğrul had a great impact on us and observing Turkey’s humanitarian activities around the world, we decided to become Muslim.”

After their conversion, Celal Al (who plays Abdul Rahman Alp in the series) gifted 2 Qurans – one was in English and the other in Spanish. He also gave them the Turkish flag, saying, “It is a great pleasure for us to see that people around the world are very interested in Turkey’s humanitarian activities. I am very happy to see an example of this in Los Angeles.”
The show has gained popularity not only in Pakistan, but over the whole world it seems. We have seen many interactions between the Turkish actors and Pakistani celebrities; one such example is Neelam Muneer and Gulsim Ali showing each other appreciation on social media.
