Muharram 2020/1442 Needs Much Attention
Like every other year, Muslims all around will be taking part in processions and Majlis, which will be held all around the world. But Muharram 2020 needs to held under extreme care and precaution.
Each and every Muharram, Muslims all around the world mourn the martyrdom of Imam Hussain AS. To protest against what happened years ago, mostly Shia Muslims hold different sermons and processions, countrywide. This has been going on in Pakistan too, since 1947. There were times when the processions were attacked, yet people came out with more energy and more enthusiasm each and every time. However, this time, things will have to be different.
This year, amid the COVID-19 breakout, one has to realize the dangers it posses. It is really important for all those attending Majlis, Niyaz & Julus, to keep themselves sanitized the whole time. It won’t only be better for our own selves, but would also be beneficial for those around us. There are many people who are of the stance that it won’t affect us. However, that is not the case. People aren’t being allowed to enter Karbala this Muharram. Neither on Ashura, nor on Arbaeen. This year, Hajj didn’t take place the usual way.
Usually, our emotions cloud our rationality. And that leads to biased decisions that aren’t much useful. Yet, we go with those decisions and we regret them later. Imam Hussain AS always looked after his people, and he would love to see his people safe and sound, in the first place.
As important as it is, all the processions should be carried out with extreme care. Those hosting Majlis should keep sanitizers for those who are coming to attend Majlis. People should wear masks all the time. The major role here will have to played by Maulana’s, who should make sure to spread the message all around. Some of them have already started spreading awareness.

All one can say is, let’s be safe and keep others safe while mourning over the incident of Karbala.
