Nepal Finds the Crash Site of The Missing Plane With 22 Passengers On Board

The army of Nepal said on Monday that it found the crash area of the plane that disappeared with 22 people aboard on Sunday due to bad weather.

“Search and rescue troops have physically located the plane crash site,” army spokesman Narayan Silwal said on Twitter, showing a photo of the ruins with the plane’s license plate number plainly visible and components of the plane strewn across a mountainside in Nepal.

According to an airport official, rescue teams in Nepal have found 14 dead at the accident scene so far.

“We’re still looking for others,” said Tek Raj Sitaula, a spokeswoman for Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport.

As per the airline company and government officials, four Indians, two Germans, and 16 Nepalis were on board the jet, a De Havilland Canada DHC-6-300 Twin Otter managed by privately run Tara Air.

Before losing communication with the control tower and crashing on a mountainside in Nepal, the plane was on a 20-minute trip.

It had taken off from Pokhara, a major tourist and pilgrimage destination around 80 kilometres northwest of Pokhara, and 125 km west of Kathmandu, the capital of the country of Nepal.

The aircraft, with the number plate 9N-AET, had its maiden flight in April 1979, according to the flight-tracking website Flightradar24.

Five helicopters were available to assist with the rescue, according to Deo Chandra Lal Karna, a spokeswoman for the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN).

Nepal has a history of aviation mishaps, as it is home to eight of the world’s fourteen tallest mountains, including Everest. Its weather may vary quickly, and airstrips are often placed in difficult-to-reach hilly terrain.

A US-Bangla Airlines aircraft which was going from Dhaka to Kathmandu collapsed and caught fire in early 2018, killing 51 of the 71 passengers on board.
