Pakistan: Khunjerab Pass Marathon 2019

Highest altitude marathon in the world has successfully happened in Pakistan on Saturday comprising international athletes as well.

For the very first time in the history, Pakistan arranged highest altitude marathon at Khunjerab Pass. The race was organised by Winter Sports Federation with support of partners.

Pakistan Air Force (PAF) joined hands with Serena Hotels and a travel company Z Adventures, who organized and hosted The Khunjerab Pass Marathon (2019). Athletes from almost 17 countries participated in the race at the Karakorum. There were 154 runners out of which 39 athletes were international.

The marathon included three categories- mini-marathon (21 km) , marathon (42 km), and ultra-marathon (50 km).

In 21 km race, Mirza Aslam Baig got gold, followed by Abdul Muheet and Musawwar-Ur-Rehman with second and third positions, correspondingly. Whereas, in 42 km race, Umair Haider secured first position and Mohammad Faheem and Sohail Tanveer secured the second and third positions, respectively. While, in 50 km race, Mohammad Siyar from Pak Army clinched the first position, whereas Aslam Khan from GB Scouts bagged the second position. The third position was secured by Mohammad Iqbal.

GB Chief Minister Hafeezur Rehman and Air Marshal Aasim Zaheer, President Winter Sports Federation of Pakistan, were also present on the occasion.

The marathon’s initiative was not only to showcase the beauty of Pakistan to the world but it was also to promote tourism and peace worldwide.
