Pakistani models to walk Milan Fashion Week

Mushk Kaleem and Alicia Khan set to walk Milan Fashion Week for Haitian-Italian designer, Stella Jean, proudly representing Pakistan.

Pakistani models Mushk Kaleem and Alicia Khan are all prepared to illuminate the catwalk at the renowned Milan Fashion Week. Both of the models will be walking the ramp for Haitian-Italian designer Stella Jean.

Milan Fashion Week-runway pakistanStella Jean is recognized as the very first Black Italian designer and she is also renowned for infusing unique cultural work in her projects. Her upcoming spring/summer 2020 collection features handicrafts from northern Pakistan.

“The Ministry of Commerce, in collaboration with Stella Jean and United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), has launched an initiative to empower the women of Chitral, Gilgit, Hunza, and Kalash,” said Commerce Secretary Sardar Ahmad Nawaz Sukhera in a statement. Through this initiative, the designer has incorporated embroidered items by an NGO under the name of ‘Chitral Women’s Handicraft Centre’, by Karishma Ali.

Commerce Secretary, Sardar Ahmed, said that the designer’s spring/summer 2020 collection at the Milan Fashion Show is ‘the most important annual fashion event’, and that it would create immense awareness and market access for the women working in the Northern areas of Pakistan.

Mushk Kaleem shared the exciting news with the fans on social media platform, stating, ” This is the defining moment of Pakistan’s industry”. She further added, “I feel so immensely honored and proud to represent Pakistan at the Milan Fashion Week 2019!”, and that, “I’ve been given this unbelievable opportunity to walk for @stellajean_sj_ [Stella Jean], who collaborated with UNIDO, and paid a heartfelt homage to our culture by infusing the embroidery done by women of Pakistan in the northern areas.”

Whereas, Alicia Khan shared that the opportunity is a dream come true for her. She wrote, “Proud to represent my country, Pakistan & extremely honored to be present there”.

The pair were chosen for the Milan Fashion Week after Stella visited Pakistan not long ago. She met with government agents and especially watched the craft natives towards the north.

Sukhera and Ambassador of Pakistan in Italy Nadeem Riaz will be present at the event to meet with the leaders of the fashion/textile industry of Italy.
