Pakistan’s First Domestic Abuse Helpline Launched
The Ministry of Human Rights Pakistan has started a free, nationwide helpline to report domestic abuse cases, in an attempt to end violence against women.
The Ministry of Human Rights (MOHR) Pakistan has started a free, nationwide domestic abuse hotline to report cases in an attempt to end violence against women and children.
Victims can report cases by calling the domestic abuse helpline at 1099 or by downloading the ministry’s application Helpline 1099.
In a statement the Ministry of Human Rights Pakistan stated: “Every woman/girl has the right to live her life safely and free of violence. Help us end violence against women and girls with our national 1099 helpline app. Raise your voice and report any act of abuse or violence”
Apart from the victims, the Ministry of Human Rights Pakistan is encouraging and asserting the importance of any person who witnesses any form of violence and abuse to report the cases through the helpline or the application.
on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on November 25, the ministry issues a statement in which the Government of Pakistan reiterated their commitment towards women’s empowerment and ending violence against them.
“Pakistan’s National Action Plan on Human Rights has ‘Protection of Women’ as one of its key priority areas,” the statement read. “Women Protection Centres and a 24-hour Helpline (1099) have been established to provide free legal advice, redressal, and referral mechanism.”
The ministry also stated that on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, we must also recognise the “systematic violence against women in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).”
