PCB Shuffles Central Contracts for Men’s Team

PCB announced some changes in the central contracts for the men's team for the year 2020-21, and made Babar Azam and Azhar Ali captains of ODI and Test Formats respectively.

In their latest decision, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced Babar Azam and Azhar Ali as the captains for the One Day International (ODI) and Test formats respectively, as well as announced some changes in the central contracts for the men’s team for 2020-21.

One of the most shocking changes in the central contracts was the decision to not retain bowlers Mohammed Amir, Wahab Riaz and Hasan Ali.

Changes in PCB’s Central Contracts for the Men’s Team

Category A of PCB’s Central Contracts

The Category A of the Central Contracts shows the players that are retained at PKR 1.1 million. For the year 2020-21, there are only three players included in this category: ODI captain Babar Azam, Test Captain Azhar Ali, and fast bowler Shaheen Afridi. While Babar Azam was in this category the previous year too, Azhar Ali and Shaeen Afridi moved up a grade.

Category B of PCB’s Central Contracts

While Asad Shafiq, Haris Sohail, Mohammed Abbas and Shadab Khan remained on the same grade, there were 5 new additions. Former Captain Sarfraz Ahmed and leg spinner Yasir Shah were downgrades, whereas Abid Ali, Mohammed Rizwan and Multan Sultan Captain Shan Masood were upgraded. These players have been retained at PKR 750,000.

Category C of PCB’s Central Contracts

6 players have been retained at PKR 550,000, out of which 3 are new additions to the category. While Imam ul Haq got downgraded, Iftikhar Ahmed and Naseem Shah are newly contracted by PCB. The previous players that were in this category include Lahore Qalandars opener Fakhar Zaman, Karachi Kings Captain Imad Wasim, and Usman Shinwari.

Emerging Players Contracted

Three new players were contracted in the emerging category. These include Mohammed Hasnain from Quetta Gladiators, Haris Rauf from Lahore Qalandars and Haider Ali from Peshawar Zalmi.
