Pakistan to Manufacture Remdesivir Within Eight Weeks

Dr. Zafar Mirza, Special Assistant for Health, has announced that a local Pakistani company will manufacture Remdesivir. The Pakistani pharmaceutical company will be manufacturing the drug within eight weeks. Remdesivir is a drug that was developed in the US to treat COVID-19 patients. It should also be noted that the drug has shown significant results in patients suffering from COVID-19

Dr. Zafar Mirza said:

“American company Gilead has manufactured this drug and it has proven effective in treating coronavirus patients. It is said that the use of the drug has reduced the intensity of the virus by 30%”

He also mentioned that the Pakistani company is one of the five companies around the world that got the license to manufacture this drug. It can also be considered as a breakthrough for Pakistan in the world. The medicine will be able for all COVID-19 in Pakistan. However, Pakistan will also be manufacturing this drug and exporting it globally.

Dr Zafar Mirza also said that Pakistan is one of the only three countries that is manufacturing the drug Remdesivir. It will be available in the next six to eight weeks. He also said:

“It will not only be available for patients in Pakistan but the plan is to export this drug to 127 countries. Pakistan will be among three countries in the world to produce and export this to 127 countries. This is a big breakthrough and this is big news for coronavirus patients in Pakistan, who are increasing by the day and are expected to increase more.”

The pharmaceutical company producing this drug is Ferozsons Laboratories Limited. The CEO of the company, Osman Khalid Waheed, said that the aim will be to make this drug available at the least possible price.

Currently, there are two drugs being manufactured globally that have shown promising results and one of them is Remdesivir. The research and experiments have shown that the drug had a 31% faster time to recover than those on a placebo. Although it’s not much but the fact that it is working is what makes Remdesivir different than the rest of the drugs. COVID-19 is spreading day by day and has already claimed over 300,000 lives around the world.
