The survivor went to the police department to report the event that happened in 2019. The patient's physician harassed her sexually.
A medical officer (MO) was charged by the police on Monday with sexually harassing a female patient in the emergency room of the Haroonabad THQ Hospital in April 2019.
According to the complaint, on April 30, 2019, he went to the emergency room with his wife and his sister-in-law, and the on-call physician directed them to a drugstore to get medication. Later, citing the patient’s worsening condition, the doctor ordered his sister-in-law to leave the ward.
The emergency ward was sealed from the inside when the pair arrived back there, and they could hear the woman screaming. The physician did not answer the door when the man knocked on it repeatedly.
There were many witnesses to the event. The patient claimed that when the physician walked in the door, he sexually assaulted her and attempted to choke her when she refused.
The complainant attempted to contact the Punjab Healthcare Commission and the Health Complaint Centre on the same day, but to no effect. The city police filed a lawsuit against the MO under sections 324 and 354 of the PPC due to the health secretary’s intervention.
