In the Protected Areas Initiative, the protected area in Pakistan will be increased from 13% to 15% of the land area in the country. The initiative will also ensure that there is an effective management and governance of the current protected areas.

Most these protected areas are “paper parks” – this means that the current activities that are being done to stop the degradation of the regions is not enough to be successful.

PM Imran Khan will be announcing 15 national parks. These parks will cover a land area of over 7,300 sq km, spanning to the mountains in the north to the scrub forests in the plains and a marine protected area in the south of the country.

9 out of these 15 national parks are new and were recently given the status of national park. The other 6 were declared national parks in the past but were not protected.

With PM Imran Khan’s Protected Areas Initiative, 5000 jobs will generated for the unemployed.
