Political Party Opposes Release of The Legend of Maula Jatt in India

"The Legend of Maula Jatt" will not be released anywhere in India, Ameya Khopkar tweeted on the orders of party chairperson Raj Thackeray.

The Legend of Maula Jatt, starring Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan, may have achieved new heights, but for political figure and film producer Ameya Khopkar, it still isn’t enough for the movie to be released in India.

On Friday, the leader of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena party tweeted, “There are plans to release Pakistani actor Fawad Khan’s Pakistani movie The Legend of Maula Jatt in India. Being led by an Indian firm is extremely frustrating.

Khopkar stated that The Legend of Maula Jatt will not be released anyplace in India following the directives of MNS Chairperson Raj Thackeray. There are merely rumours about the movie’s potential Indian release; nothing is confirmed.

In a subsequent tweet, the politician-producer behind Lai Bhaari, Ye Re Ye Re Paisa, and Bhonga referred to the Indian supporters of Fawad as “traitors” and advised them to travel to Pakistan to see the movie.

Khopkar and MNS have problems with more than only The Legend of Maula Jatt. Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, directed by Karan Johar and starring Fawad, Anushka Sharma, and Ranbir Kapoor, was earlier criticised by the producer. Additionally, several party leaders rejected the premiere of Mahira Raees, starring Shah Rukh Khan. MNS demanded that Pakistani artists be prohibited from performing in India.

The nation comes first, Khopkar had said to India Today six years before the premiere of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. The losses incurred by producers are unimportant to us. If Ae Dil Hai Mushkil is released, there will be problems in the theatres. We do indeed pose a threat.

In The Legend of Maula Jatt, Punjab’s superhero is reimagined for a global audience as a reworking of the 1979 cult movie Maula Jatt. Along with Resham, Humaima Malick, Gohar Rasheed, Ali Azmat, Raheela Agha, Babar Ali, Saima Baloch, Shafqat Cheema, and Faris Shafi, these actors are featured in the movie.

The movie generated $8.95 million at the international box office as of November. The domestic box office for The Legend of Maula Jatt was $3.58 million, and the worldwide total was $5.37 million. Both domestically and internationally, the movie’s box office success is still going strong. The film’s uncut version, which debuted on December 2, is currently viewable in the UK.
