Polythene Bags – Now Banned in Quetta by the EPA

On July 8, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) decided to ban buying, selling, using and producing polythene bags across Quetta with immediate effect!

On July 8, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) decided to ban polythene bags across Quetta with immediate effect! The ban will include selling, purchasing, producing, and using such bags.

According to EPA’s notification, using polythene bags was banned under the Balochistan Environmental Protection Act and thus is banned in Quetta. The notification also mentioned being penalised under the law if anyone does not comply with the ban.

The fines announced by the EPA are as follows:

  • Large-scale business units – from Rs 100,000 to Rs 500,000;
  • Medium-size units – Rs 80,000 to Rs 200,000;
  • Small-scale units – Rs 20,000 to Rs 150,000.

Balochistan’s Environment Secretary Saboor Kakar stated that the district administration and police could fine any guilty party who don’t follow the EPA imposed ban in Quetta.
