PPP & JUI-F Ties: Zardari Invites Fazal to Benazir’s Death Anniversary
Former president, Asif Ali Zardari has invited JUI-F chief Fazlur Rehman to Larkana to attend a rally for the death anniversary of former PM Benazir Bhutto.
On Thursday, December 24, former president and co-chairman of PPP, Asif Ali Zardari officially invited Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief, Maulana Fazal ur Rehman to Larkana to attend a rally scheduled for December 27, on the occasion of the death anniversary of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto. The invitation was formally sent out through a telephone conversation between the two leaders of the 11-party opposition alliance, also known as the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM).
During the phone call, both Zardari and Fazal exchanged views on the current political situation in Pakistan including the ongoing anti-government protest movement from their opposition alliance, PDM’s platform. After this, Zardari invited Fazal to Larkana to partake in Benazir’s death anniversary rally.
The PPP will hold the rally in Garhi Khuda Bux, a small village in Larkana where the Bhutto mausoleum is located. as a ritual and part of their annual memorial of the martyrdom of Benazir Bhutto. Bilawal Bhutto has also previously invited leaders of the PDM alliance to attend the event.
The telephone conversation between the Zardari and Fazal comes as the opposition alliance moves ahead with the second phase of its movement to overthrow the PTI government.
Speaking at a press conference, Khuhro said that “this year’s rally would be [a] massive one and we expect a huge turnout of people on the day.”
Zardari and other PPP members are confident that all PDM members including Fazal will be present at the rally including PML-N vice president, Maryam Nawaz.
