Prince Harry Receives Backlash On His Best Selling Biography

Prince Harry claims that his revelation was taken out of context by the press for commercial purposes and manipulated to make him look bad.

In response to criticism of his best-selling biography, Prince Harry said he was especially angered by the “lie” that he had boasted of having to kill 25 people in Afghanistan while working as a warplane helicopter pilot.

The youngest son of King Charles details his two deployments in Afghanistan—the first as a forward air controller in 2007–2008 and the second as a co-pilot shooter in Apache attack helicopters—as well as the number of people he killed in his book “Spare.”

His choice to reveal the number of individuals he had murdered has come under fire from British newspapers, whom he harshly attacks in his book, as well as several prominent former British military personnel, who claim that doing so could expose him and others to retaliation.

He said in an interview on “The Late Show” with US talk show presenter Stephen Colbert that he had simply done this to lessen the incidence of suicides among veterans.

He asserted that the press had twisted his comments to remove his admission from context, calling it “without doubt the most dangerous lie that they have told us that I somehow boasted about the number of people that I killed in Afghanistan.”

“I made a choice to share it because having spent nearly two decades working with veterans all around the world, I think the most important thing is, to be honest, and be able to give space to others to be able to share their experiences without any shame.”

The publisher of Harry’s book announced on Tuesday that it had broken the record for the quickest-selling non-fiction novel in the UK. His book has dominated British media for days with its intensely personal disclosures about his life and the lives of other royals, as well as his accusations that they had colluded with a hostile press.

“I’m not going to lie the last few days have been hurtful and challenging,” Harry added.
