Qatar Airways Fined By CAA for Violating SOPs

After a passenger tested positive for the virus on the Qatar Airways flight to Islamabad, the airline has been fined for PKR 100,000/- and more.

Qatar Airways has been fined with Rs.100,000/- by the Civil Aviation Authority for violating the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). All airlines have been ordered to follow these for the prevention of the spread of COVID-19 in air travel.

Abdul Sattar Khokhar, spokesperson of the Aviation Division in a press release revealed that the government had taken note of Qatar Airways putting the health and safety of the passengers and airport staff being put at risk by the violation of these standard operating procedures. The fine imposed by the Civil Aviation Authority was of PKR 100,000/-

Qatar Airways will also be responsible for the expenses of COVID-19 testing and quarantine of travellers and airport personnel.

One of the passengers travelling aboard Qatar Airways flight to Islamabad had tested positive for COVID-19.

Abdul Sattar Khokar also affirmed that Aviation Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan called a meeting regarding outsourcing of major airports. The minister for privatisation, Adviser to the Prime Minister for Institutional Reforms and Austerity, the Board of Investment Chairman and Aviation Secretary were among those present in the meeting. He was informed that in accordance with the directions of the cabinet, an audit firm will be hired in the initial phase to carry forward the process according to the best international practices.

The CAA, just two days back, also issued a new travel advisory for the passengers that, too, in a move to contain novel coronavirus spread. 96 hours before travelling, passengers must be tested for the coronavirus and must test negative in order to travel to and from Pakistan.
