Rihanna Donates Against Domestic Abuse in COVID-19
Rihanna has donated $2.1 million to the Mayor’s Fund for Los Angeles to assist victims of domestic abuse impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Rihanna has donated $2.1 million to the Mayor’s Fund for Los Angeles to assist victims of domestic abuse impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Her Clara Lionel Foundation collaborated with Twitter and Square CEO Jack Dorsey to donate to the drive. These funds will cover 10 weeks’ worth of support – including shelter, meals and counselling for families experiencing domestic violence during the pandemic in Los Angeles.
Before her donation to assist victims of domestic abuse, Rihanna’s Clara Lionel Foundation partnered with Jay-Z’s Shawn Carter Foundation to donate $2 million to support undocumented workers, prisoners, homeless people, the elderly and children of frontline health workers in Los Angeles and New York during the COVID-19 pandemic. She also donated personal protective equipment to healthcare providers in New York State, and gave $5 million to global organisations to protect healthcare workers and marginalised communities.
Global Domestic Abuse Trends During the COVID-19 Pandemic
UN Secretary General recently tweeted about domestic violence cases, and how the safety of the victims should be a high priority for the governments.

The trend does not only apply to USA – in China’s province Hubei – centre of the COVID-19 outbreak – domestic abuse reports to police more than tripled in a single county, from 47 cases in February 2019 to 162 this year.
In the UK, many foundations and charities announced that they were not able to effectively support abuse victims during the lock down as they had technical issues, inability to meet victims and staff sickness.
In Pakistan, the Ministry of Human Rights tweeted on March 30: “Lockdowns and quarantine measures often leave women and children vulnerable to domestic abuse and violence — which is known to rise during emergencies.
