The duke and duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and Kate Middleton have announced in a recent press release that they will be visiting Pakistan on an official tour in autumn. This news came days after Meghan Markle and prince Harry disclosed their plans for a tour of Africa, also in autumn.

“The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will undertake an official visit to Pakistan at the request of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office,” a statement from the palace read.

Although the details of the trip are unclear and it is unknown whether the couple will travel with their children or embark on a solo trip. Whatever the case is this trip will mark the couple’s first visit to Pakistan.

The last time the country was visited by a British Royal was in 2006 by prince Charles and Camilla. Before this Queen Elizabeth herself visited twice back in 1961 and 1997. Of course we cannot forget the late Princess Diana travelling solo in 1991 winning the hearts of many Pakistanis.

High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Mohammad Nafees Zakaria welcomed the royal tweet, posting, “Upcoming Royal visit reflects the importance the UK attaches to Pakistan. Both countries enjoy historical links & wish to strengthen further.”

There are security concerns but the couple ignoring this follows the footsteps of their father, grandmother and late mother.

The actual dates are not released yet but they are likely to meet Prime Minister Imran Khan amid their journey.
