SHC Orders to Shift Arzoo Raja into a Shelter Home

With justice for Arzoo Raja trending all over Pakistan, and the recent developments in the forceful conversion case. SHC has now directed police officials to shift Arzoo Raja into a shelter home.

Once, Jibran Nasir had taken up the case, he had posted about Arzoo Raja being in wrongful possession and that she deserves to be shifted into a shelter home until the case is resolved. Today, Minister of Human Rights, Shireen Mazari has announced that the Sindh High court has ordered that the girl be recovered.

“The judge has ordered the girl to be recovered by police and relevant agencies and shifted to a shelter home. The next hearing is fixed for Thursday morning (November 5). My lawyer has informed the court that an intervener will be filed on my behalf,” she said on Twitter.

Moreover, Jibran Nasir has also confirmed this news and has also stated that they will perform a dew medical tests to accurately determine Arzoo Raja’s age once she is shifted into a shelter home.

The court has recognized that the issues at hand are the girl’s age, whether she was forcefully converted or not, and if her marriage is legal. Furthermore, Jibran Nasir tweeted, “Glad both the Sindh government and the federal government want to pursue #JusticeForArzoo. There is a lot to learn from the injustices committed in this case first by the accused and then by our governance system. With both governments on board hope this case will become ground for a renewed focus on child rights.”

A Sindh government spokesperson, Murtaza Wahab, also announced that the court had filed an application and ordered that the authorities locate Arzoo Raja within five days and shift her into a shelter home immediately.

The abduction and forceful conversion and marriage of Arzoo Raja have caused outrage within the people and given rise to protests by several human rights groups.
