Peshawar PDM Rally Halted by Govt.

In light of recent terrorism and threats, The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has urged for the Peshawar PDM rally to be postponed.

After the meeting between Chief Minister Mahmood Khan and Provincial Minister Shaukat Yousafzai, it was deduced that the government is ready to hold talks with the opposition parties in regards to all matters except for accountability. PDM leaders have also been urged to postpone their Peshawar PDM rally in the larger public interest.

Provincial Minister Shaukat Yousafzai’s statement read: “Peshawar has witnessed a tragic terrorism incident in which innocent children of a madrassa were targeted. The PDM should reconsider its Peshawar rally in view of the potential threat of terrorism. The provincial government will not impose any ban on rallies and processions. On the contrary, all the rallies and processions of the opposition will be given full security. The PDM should not play with the lives of the people to save the corruption of some leaders,”

He referred to the Peshawar madrasa attack that took the lives of many and has since instilled fear in civilians and has posed greater terrorist threats. Therein, Yousafzai stated that the PDM leaders’ agenda was not based on public interest while the nation stood by its security forces in the fight against terrorism.

Moreover, Shaukat Yousafzai made it clear that although the government has offered to talk with the PDM leaders, this offer should not be considered a weakness of the government.

PTI has decided to counter the opposition’s “anti-state narrative” with full force at every level and expose the corruption cases the opposition members are charged with. Imran Khan has reiterated that the government will not succumb to the PDM’s pressures nor will it provide the charged members with any concessions.
