From March 28 onward, shops will operate till 5 pm in Sindh as per the orders of CM Murad Ali Shah. Initially, the decision for the shops was to stay open till 8pm. However, it was observed that people became lax during late hours and used grocery shopping as an excuse to stay out late.

The decision to reduce the operations of shops by 3 hours was taken in a meeting led by the Chief Minister Sindh and attend by Health Minister Dr Azra Pechuho, Chief Secretary Mumtaz Shah, Director General of Sindh Rangers Major General Omar Bukhari, Home Secretary Usman Chachar, Brigadier Sami of V Corps and Dr Abdul Bari of the Indus Hospital.

It was revealed in the meeting that 10% of the total cases are locally transmitted, and the numbers are still increasing. There were 168 cases of COVID-19, excluding the pilgrims at Sukkur and Larkana, and 102 of them were of local transmission.

“This shows that the local transmission is still progressing, therefore, we all have to observe a complete lockdown, otherwise we will not be in a position to control it,” CM Shah stated. “This is a dangerous trend, therefore, we have to contain it further by observing necessary precautionary measures and effectively observing the lockdown,” he added.
