CM Shah Leads Task Force on Coronavirus

CM Shah announces closure of all shops except pharmacies from 8pm to 8am, shares mapping of the cases and directed his principle secretary to report on the feasibility of procuring a new machine developed by Wuhan Institute of Virology.

During the 27th meeting of the Task Force on Coronavirus, CM Murad Ali Shah has announced that all shops except pharmacies will remain open from 8pm to 8am as many people keep violating the lock down for the past 2 days. Along with pharmacies, any medical store and hospital will be operating too.

He directed the IGP to take stricter measures to make the lock down more effective. CM Shah further directed Sindh’s Chief Secretary and Karachi Commissioner to close down all the big industries and direct banks to open their necessary branches only.

He also announced that the health department was working on mapping all the COVID-19 cases. In Karachi, 122 cases have been mapped out of 143.

The map shows:

  • 41 cases are in Saddar Town,
  • 15 in Gulshan-i-Iqbal,
  • 10 in Nazimabad,
  • 9 each in Gulberg and Jamshed Town,
  • 7 in Liaquatabad,
  • 4 in Malir,
  • 3 each in Gadap and North Karachi
  • 1 in Orangi.

CM Shah asked the health department to share the map with Deputy Commissioner to enforce measures to limit them in these areas. He was also briefed by the health department about 18 mobile clinic vehicles provided by Indus Hospital to collect samples from people.

Moreover, there was a discussion about a new machine developed by the Wuhan Institute of Virology in China for testing for COVID-19. This machine accepts samples from the throat while the current system accepts samples from noses. He has asked his principle secretary to discuss with the medical experts the feasibility of this machine in Pakistan. If the decision was in favour of the procurement, then an order of 100 machines will be placed. The CM also added that he would be requesting the federal government for a plane to be sent for bringing in the machines.
