Should Pakistan be a Part of US-Iran Hatred?

Willingly or unwillingly, Pakistan becomes a part of every war, whether it be with Iran, Afghanistan or India. But this time Pakistan has a different stance to it.

On January 3, Qassem Soleimani was assassinated in Iraq through a US Air Strike. As he was the Major General of Iran, it has rose up the anger filled in them. Iran and US had always been fighting proxy wars, but rarely got in to a conventional one. Although killing of Soleimani tells a story otherwise. It seems that Iran is fully prepared to go in to war against US, amid all the countries telling them not to. On the other hand, US has been giving out warnings to Iran. The warnings are coming from no one else but their own President, Donald Trump.

Pakistan was bound to chose a side, between US-Iran, like always. Either Iran or the United States. The dilemma in Pakistan is quite absurd. Like its previous governments, the Pakistanis are also distributed when it comes to taking sides. One-third is associated with Iran, one-third with Saudi Arab and the last with United States.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi’s Stance

However, Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Shah Mahmood Qureshi gave a speech. He had quite speculated views on the US-Iran issue. According to him, Pakistan is taking no sides this time. It is quite good for Pakistan, which itself is an unstable country. SM Qureshi told “Pakistan backs principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity as enshrined in the UN charter”. “Pakistan’s soil will not be used against any other state,” adding that Pakistan “will not be party to this regional conflict”.

Nevertheless, it is a wise decision to be away from disputes which effect Pakistan. It is better for now to focus on our own country rather than being involved in other’s conflicts.

The world, moreover, has termed all this chaos as WWIII already. Although, war should never be an option for countries. But US-Iran war seems to have gotten out of hands already. It is yet to see how Iran takes action against killing of Qassem Soleimani.
